Unique Features: The Rainbow Pillar serviceberry is a cultivar of a North American tree/ shrub that originated as a chance seedling found growing in an Ohio nursery. It normally grows as a low branched, multi-stemmed plant and was selected primarily for its dense symmetrical, narrow growth habit. When grown in this form it can be an excellent screen. To get a single trunk tree it is bud grafted onto a trunk from a different species of the same family, in this case, A. laevis. Grown on its own, only about 10% of its profuse flowers produce fruit. If you want more fruit then plant another species of the same family nearby. The Rainbow Pillar is highly resistant to powdery mildew and rust. This cultivar is also very adaptable to moisture levels ranging from standing water to drought when established.
